Development and clinical validation of a
simulation tool for design and evaluation of knee prosthesis.
Abstract:
The main objective of this project is
to develop a tool for virtual simulation of the knee in an
integrated CAD/CAM/CAE environment, that validated by tests 'in
vivo' and 'in vitro' permits evaluation of different prosthetic
designs for the knee. This evaluation is made from the kinematics
and dynamics of the artificial joint compared to the healthy knee.
The tool is based on a three-dimensional biomechanical model of the
knee. The transfer of results is directed mainly towards R&D
departments of manufacturers of this type of prostheses. The tool
will allow to generate criteria with which to design innovative
products with significant competitive advantage.
